Pityriasis Versicolor

A common chronic, noninflammatory and usually symptomless disorder, characterized by the occurrence of multiple macular patches of all sizes and shapes, and varying in pigmentation from fawn-coloured to brown. It is produced by the proliferation of the lipophilic yeast, Malassezia furfur which is part of the normal flora of human skin. It can occur at any age but is most commonly seen in young adults and is comparatively rare in children.
