Pediculosis Capitis

Infestation of the scalp by the human head louse (Pediculus capitis) acquired by direct head-to-head contact as well as shared hats, towels, or hair brushes. It is more common in children than in adults. Pruritus is a common symptom. There may be signs of irritation in the form of erythema and scaling. Adhering whitish or sandy-coloured empty egg-cases (’nits’) may be seen.
