Hereditary Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome

Syndrome characterized by the presence of at least two atypical nevi, many banal nevi and nevi in unusual sites such as on buttocks, breasts and in the iris. Clinically atypical nevi have variable pigmentation and ill defined borders, they may exceed 5 mm in diameter. Biopsies show melanocytic dysplasia. This atypical nevus syndrome phenotype is the most potent risk factor for melanoma in families and in the general population.
