Condyloma Acuminatum

Sexually transmitted form of anogenital warty growth caused by the human papillomaviruses. Initially, the warts form small papules, which in maceration are whitish, in other cases reddish in coulour. The lesions are usually multiple, especially on moist surfaces, and their growth can be enhanced in the presence of other local infections. Large cauliflower-like structures may form which may finally cover the entire external genitalia. It was previously thought that sexual abuse was the most common mode of transmission of anogenital warts in prepubertal children. More recent studies, however, suggest that perinatal infection, autoinoculation or heteroinoculation from cutaneous warts may be a common means by which children acquire anogenital warts.
