Gardner Syndrome

Autosomal dominant disease featuring polyposis of the colon or rectum with a tendency towards malignant change, fibrous tissue tumours, osteomas and multiple epidermoid cysts. The skin manifestations may first appear between the age of 4 and 10 years. Sebaceous or epidermoid cysts are usually irregularly distributed on the face, scalp and extremities. Osteomas develop mainly in the maxilla, mandible and sphenoid bones. Fibromas or desmoid tumors are less frequent. Lipomas in the subcutaneous tissues, and in other organs, have frequently been reported. Gardner’s syndrome is located on chromosome 5q.
