Myxoid Finger Cyst

Circumscribed, soft, almost translucent cystic structure on the dorsal aspect of the distal phalanxes of the fingers or toes due to localized mucoid degeneration of connective tissue. The lesion varies in size from time to time, and it may be painful. If it is situated over the nail matrix it gives rise to a depression on the nail which extends throughout the length of the nail. Incision evacuates a mucous secretion, but the cyst fills up again. The myxoid finger cyst exhibits neither an epithelium nor synovia and is therefore not a true cyst.
